Weekend Update

This week is dragging by for me, just like last week, but it also feels like I've been busier than normal. Could be the chaos that is work right now... I haven't even posted about the weekend yet! So here goes:

Amy's Ending Position Friday was James' birthday, so we went tobogganing at Bickford Park and then to Dragonfly for a few drinks. After, we hauled ourselves up to College for some early morning breakfast at Mars. The craziest thing is, on the streetcar up we totally met up with Julia and Kevin! If there's anyone I bump into on the TTC, it's Julia and Kevin. It's kinda weird actually. To see all the photos from sledding, click HERE.

Saturday, Stef and I watched all the Harry Potter movies. Like I said earlier today to my co-worker- I'm currently Harry Potter retarded. So who should I spy on the cover of the National Post this morning? Daniel Radcliffe... topless. That's Harry Potter- spindly boy wizard- half nude. I don't know what disturbs me more; Potter's nipples out in the open, or the fact that I sorta liked it. Sheesh. What's more- he'll be starring in a play called Equus, as a stable boy with an unhealthy obsession with his steeds, and in one scene, he'll be nude. With a horse. Yikes!

Sloan DowntownMoving on... Saturday night we went check out Sloan at Nathan Phillips Square. What a great show... way better than the show I saw at the KoolHaus back in November! First of all- I was able to bounce with the crowd since my back wasn't being a pain, plus- they played a bunch of they're older stuff, which was awesome, and also- Stef was here to see it (she was supposed to come to the KoolHaus, but was in Asia instead)! More photos HERE.

Sunday I did nothing. I was thinking about going to the AGO to see the Ansel Adams/
Alfred Eisenstaedt show, but it looked cold outside. So I stayed in. And played Neverwinter Nights!

Questioning My Sincerity

This morning on the streetcar, I accidentally hit this woman in the head (repeatedly) with my elbow- but my coat is so thick, I honestly didn't feel it. Well- she 'gave it to me good', and so I apologized profusely. Just then, Becky said, "Yeah Kari, keep your elbows to yourself," and we all laughed. The woman got so angry, and refused to believe that I was truly sorry. I didn't know what else to say!

If I were her, I probably would've gotten pissed too... but man- some people have to lighten up!

In spirit of streetcar boogies everywhere, Bex has compiled a list of streetcar etiquette. It's pretty extensive. Check out her list!

Exposure is Good!

Ha! I finally started adding some of my photos to the Torontoist Flickr pool and one of my shots got chosen for the Weekly Photo Roundup! Yipeee!!

Bex Takes a Breather

Also, shortly after I posted my photos from the Sloan concert on Saturday night (which was awesome, I'll post about that in a bit), I noticed that someone from NowPublic is using them for an article they posted about Toronto's WinterCity festival. I'm a little bit wary of the NowPublic site... it's an open source news site- "citizen journalism". The article in question is just a bunch of other news site stories gathered together, with a bunch of photos the author pulled off of Flickr. An easy peasy way to call yourself a journalist, I must say. Still- more people are going to see my photos, which I can't complain about.

A Round, Delicious Me!

Look at what I did! How cute am I when I'm covered in a delicious candy coating!?! Melt in your mouth goodness! I choose to be a brown M&M, cuz honestly, they're my favourite. Something about the colour brown makes them taste even more chocolaty!

You can morph yourself into an M&M, too, if you want... click the following link:

Back on Track

I've got my photo blog back on track now... after a couple months hiatus. Once I got my new computer, I didn't have Photoshop anymore! But now, I do. So I'm back! Be sure to visit and comment: Ravenswift Images

This one was taken on the way to Value Village on Saturday. That's really why I wanted to walk- to take photos. I haven't done a lot of shooting this winter- not sure why. But I can feel myself getting back into it.

You know what this means... I have to buy something new for my camera! A telephoto lens? A tripod? Who knows... there's tonnes of stuff I want. Ooh... I know- a Gorillapod. That's what I'm getting. If we've got them in stock!

End of an Era

I've decided to remove my labrette piercing. It's time. I might put a ring back in my nose though. We'll see!

House Guest = Energy Boost

Stef's staying at my place for a bit, and I'm really finding it's boosting my energy levels. Firstly, having someone stay as a house guest forces you to get up off your ass and clean... even though I was sick last Thursday, I still managed to clean at least the bathroom before she got here!

And so, on Saturday, we decided to walk to Value Village. It's not like, a 90k bike trek or anything, but still! I took my camera along, and got a few interesting shots. We also walked through some neighbourhoods that I had never been in before (not entirely on purpose), so it was a learning experience, as well. You can see the rest of the pics I took by visiting my Flickr page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ravenswift/

We got to Val Vil and spent a good couple of hours browsing, laughing, trying stuff on, laughing. I scored a few good books- Spadework by Timothy Findlay, The Stone Diaries by Carol Shields and A Good House by Bonnie Burnard. I also grabbed a couple neat sweaters, some kitchen utensils, and James' birthday present! Sweeeeeeeet. We took the bus home.

Yesterday, we walked to Squirly's for some breakfast (well, brunch), and then ran some errands. And then, we watched the season premiere of 24. MAN! It's gonna be a good season. More violent then ever, but it's so fantastic, I can't help but laugh.

Welcome Home Stef!

After a well-deserved two-month hiatus from work, and many miles traveled throughout Asia, Stef has finally returned home! It's good to have her back safe and sound, and I can't wait to see all the amazing photographs she took.

SERIOUS SLIDE SHOW ACTION on Thursday!

(Sorry, Stef, I just had to post this photo! It's like, the most recent one I have of you!)

A Conversation About Fish

I was sitting in my usual spot today on the streetcar (very back, window seat), and this Asian fellow sits beside me, all huffing and puffing... he cracked open a can of Coke (which I was sure would burst all over me- thankfully it didn't), and he said, "It's very freezing outside!"

I thought to myself, "Finally!" (Regarding the weather, not the Asian guy.) I was also hoping the guy wouldn't try to start up a conversation with me. Alas.

We talked about fish. About how he just came from the Bay-Bloor library, where he was looking for books about fish. About how the biggest fish he ever caught was 9 lbs. (it's true, he showed me a video on his phone). About how he's going to drive to Vancouver, and catch a 120 lb. halibut, and mount it on his wall. And about how the biggest mackerel on record was bigger than the streetcar.

I told him I didn't believe him about the 120 lb. halibut. My grandpa sold halibut at his fish and chip shop (London Pride Fish and Chips), and they were only like, 2 lbs., if that. But as I was looking for a pic to put in this post, I found this:

http://www.afsc.noaa.gov/RACE/behavioral/halibut_fbe.htm

I had no idea.

I'm always wary about talking to people on the streetcar... I'm a bit shy around new people. But this conversation wasn't that bad! LOL

Hook, Line and Sinker

If anyone out there is wondering why I haven't posted in a while... it's because I'm thoroughly addicted to the RPG game Neverwinter Nights. The original, not Neverwinter Nights 2 (I'm not about to spend that much money on a game, however, I can see why people would). The game is, needless to say, quite good. It's like being in a movie. A really long, involved movie.

My character's name is Krystle Waters, and she's an 11th level sorcerer. She's awesome, of course. She has a psuedodragon familiar, who's name is Malkovich. She's hired a henchman named Tomi Undergallows, who's good for picking locks and disabling traps. And she usually travels with a dire bear that she's summoned to help with her fighting.

So, because I like being engulfed in fantasy, I'm completely hooked.
