I Say No More
No more waking up weekends and not having a plan. I absolutely love lounging about the whole day long, but I'm beginning to think it's not good for my psyche. Once the weekend is over, I feel empty, unaccomplished, sloth-like. Why is this just starting now? I've never felt this way before.
There's an easy solution. Usually if I have a busy day ahead of me, I'll mentally go over the most efficient sequence of events, during the first few minutes before I open my eyes in the morning. I think that's what I've got to do, even if my day isn't busy. Or maybe doing this will create the feeling of a busy day, so I'll step out of bed in the morning already in second gear.
I also need to be more productive, creatively speaking. I've got this wicked awesome camera (the
Canon EOS-1D Mark III) on loan from work, and I've barely used it. I'm supposed to be checking to see that everything on the camera is functional; I already know it is, but I should be using this opportunity more to my advantage. Here's a pic I've taken with it!

Long Forgotten
On the walk home last Friday, we happened upon this bike, locked to a street sign post on the sidewalk in front of some random house.
Attached to the cross bar was a yellow notice, warning the owners of the house that the bike would be taken away if they did not remove it from the post. I just think it's funny; I bet the owners of the house didn't even know the bike was there!
And I love how the bike is described as "red", but really, it was more of a "rust" colour. I bet the owner's of the house were grateful that the city took the bike away.
Anyways- I've always wondered what happened to your bike if you forgot where you locked it up... now I know!

A Round, Delicious Me!
Look at what I did! How cute am I when I'm covered in a delicious candy coating!?! Melt in your mouth goodness! I choose to be a brown M&M, cuz honestly, they're my favourite. Something about the colour brown makes them taste even more chocolaty!

A Conversation About Fish
I was sitting in my usual spot today on the streetcar (very back, window seat), and this Asian fellow sits beside me, all huffing and puffing... he cracked open a can of Coke (which I was sure would burst all over me- thankfully it didn't), and he said, "It's very freezing outside!"
I thought to myself, "Finally!" (Regarding the weather, not the Asian guy.) I was also hoping the guy wouldn't try to start up a conversation with me. Alas.
We talked about fish. About how he just came from the Bay-Bloor library, where he was looking for books about fish. About how the biggest fish he ever caught was 9 lbs. (it's true, he showed me a video on his phone). About how he's going to drive to Vancouver, and catch a 120 lb. halibut, and mount it on his wall. And about how the biggest mackerel on record was bigger than the streetcar.
I told him I didn't believe him about the 120 lb. halibut. My grandpa sold halibut at his fish and chip shop (London Pride Fish and Chips), and they were only like, 2 lbs., if that. But as I was looking for a pic to put in this post, I found this:

I'm always wary about talking to people on the streetcar... I'm a bit shy around new people. But this conversation wasn't that bad! LOL

Looking Ahead...
It seems I'm already a victim of cabin fever... the winter's not even officially started, and I'm already thinking of what I want to grow in the garden I'm going to plant next spring. Two summers ago, James and I grew tomatoes, cucumbers, beans, carrots and lettuce, and it was awesome. So, I'm looking forward to raking a rectangle into my stoned-over back yard next May.
And then today on
Treehugger.com, there was this
story about a guy in the States, who's traveling the country building custom gardens in people's front yards. He calls it Edible Estates. His motivation is the fact that grass lawns are a waste of water and space. Instead, he wants to see lush, productive gardens. "The ultimate goal," Fritz Haeg says, "is to have everyone that comes in contact with the project, in whatever way, to reconsider how they occupy their land."
Awesome idea, eh? Man, my dad would have a humongous garden in front of his house... the lawn is pretty big. I don't think they have to water it too often though. Hopefully not, anyways!
